Welcome!

Browse the research projects of students who participated in the Biology Summer Undergraduate Research Program (BSURP).

Online showcase for BSURP

Welcome! The Department of Biology, using funds from various sources including the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE), offers paid research internships to current Stanford undergraduates who want to spend the summer participating in ongoing faculty research projects to learn biological research methods. Students work closely with a mentor on a research project to learn more about the process of science. This year, over 40 students engaged in on-campus and field projects during the summer. Students crafted a poster and recorded a presentation to share their work. Browse the current projects by topic below or search for a specific student or topic on the all projects page. You can also view projects from the 2021 and 2022 summer cohorts under the "Past projects" tab. We hope you enjoy viewing their work!

Please join us for the BSURP Symposium on Thursday, August 31st from 10:30am-noon in the Sapp Center for Science Teaching and Learning Gallery space.

Through BSURP, I was able to discover my passion for biological research and a strong support system. I am so grateful for this program and highly recommend it to any student who wants to gain meaningful research experience.

Through the program, I was able to meet my research leader and mentor, who welcomed me to a collaborative lab experience and gave me all the resources possible to have a successful lab experience. For that reason, I will always be grateful to the BSURP Program and the Sharaf Lab for their commitment to my development and achievement.
